Dr Adams also takes care of all aspects of general ophthalmology including glaucoma, pterygium surgery, lid surgeries, and injections for Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) or other retinal issues. Dr Adams completed ophthalmology training in Queensland and then undertook fellowships in Australia and overseas. She worked for the Fred Hollows Foundation as a clinical fellow in Central Australia and Nepal, and undertook a Medical Retina Fellowship at the Lions Eye Institute in Western Australia.

Dr Adams was awarded a PhD by the University of Melbourne for her research into age-related macular degeneration. Her research has been featured by the media including the Daily Mail and the Wall Street Journal. Dr Adams acts as a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals and contributes to educational podcasts and events as a speaker. Her practice provides regular educational updates for GPs and Optometrists through CPD sessions.

Dr. Katherine Smallcombe MB BS (Hons) BSc FRANZCO is a Queensland trained Ophthalmic Surgeon who strives to build excellent doctor-patient relationships based on trust, open communication and respect.

She was raised in Brisbane, attended Brisbane State High School and graduated with Honours from the University of Queensland in 1999 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. In her final year of Ophthalmology registrar training under the auspices of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO), she was awarded the prestigious K.G. Howsam Medal for academic excellence.

Dr. Smallcombe was selected as the inaugural Fellow of The Fred Hollows Foundation, working in Central Australia, The South Pacific, Nepal and China. She subsequently served on The Foundation’s Medical Advisory Committee.

As part of her commitment to ongoing professional development, Dr Smallcombe completed Fellowship training in pterygium surgery with Professor Lawrence Hirst, a world renowned expert in the field and pioneer of P.E.R.F.E.C.T. for PTERYGIUM® surgical technique. In addition, she has completed a Graduate Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery through the University of Sydney.

In 2016 Dr. Smallcombe opened her own private ophthalmology practice, KindSIGHT, consulting from rooms at Peninsula Specialist Centre. She operates at Peninsula Private Hospital, meaning patients can undergo cataract surgery locally.

Dr. Smallcombe provides specialist eye care services focusing on diseases of the aging eye, including cataract surgery, age related macular degeneration and glaucoma. After 7 years at the University of Queensland, Dr. McLintock graduated as a Doctor in 2006. He then worked as a Doctor in several Queensland hospitals for the next 5 years, mainly in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. During this period, he completed a Masters of Medicine in Ophthalmic Science through the University of Sydney.

Subsequently, he commenced 6 years of specialist training in Ophthalmology. In 2017, he was awarded the Topham Scholarship and travelled to England to undertake 18 months of sub-specialist training in corneal and refractive surgery at the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead – an institution with an international reputation for excellence and innovation. Here he refined his skills in cataract surgery, corneal surgery (including all types of corneal transplants), and refractive surgery.

As well as working at the Westside Private Hospital, Dr. McLintock also works as a corneal surgeon at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, looking after patients with very complex eye diseases. Dr. McLintock is passionate about teaching medical students and junior doctors. He is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and is heavily involved with training Queensland’s future eye surgeons through his work at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Dr. McLintock has authored numerous peer reviewed journal articles in international ophthalmology journals on many topics including cataract surgery, keratoconus and other corneal disease and limbal stem cell transplantation, He regularly presents at Australian and International Ophthalmology conferences, including the annual meetings of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) and the Australia Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (AUSCRS).

Dr Stewart understands the critical importance of your vision and comfort of your eyes in addition to achieving an excellent aesthetic result from eyelid and adnexal surgery. In treating skin cancers around the eye he partners with some of Brisbane’s best dermatologists, pathologists and radiologists so that you can be confident of getting the best treatment from initial diagnosis to reconstruction.

Dr Stewart completed his general ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital as well as an additional 2.5 years of subspecialty fellowship training in oculoplastic and adnexal surgery at the Oxford University Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital in the UK. He is an examiner in Anatomy for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and a Senior Lecturer at Griffith University. Dr James McAlister is an Eye surgeon with subspecialty experience in treating disease of the Cornea and Ocular Surface Disease as well as Cataract and Refractive Surgeon. He graduated with Honours from the University of London. His specialist training was based in London at world’s largest Eye Hospital, Moorfield’s and was a TFC Frost clinical research fellowship recipient which took him to Institute of Ophthalmology and Schepens Eye Research Institute affiliated to University College London and Harvard University, Boston respectively looking at Gene therapy strategies in corneal disease.

His training continued with a 16 months Fellowship in Cornea, External Eye disease and Refractive Surgery at Moorfield’s Hospital followed by one year Fellowship in Cornea and External Eye Disease at Southampton Hospital.

He is strongly grounded in research with a background which centres on; the evolving role of Corneal Crosslinking and its efficacy in treatment of progressive disease, various refractive interventions for Keratoconus, and dry eye disease.

Dr Jason Cassar is a specialist vitreo-retinal and cataract surgeon. He completed his medical and ophthalmic training in Queensland. Following this, he underwent two years of additional specialist vitreo-retinal and medical retina training in the United Kingdom. Dr Cassar took part in fellowships in the UK at the Hull and East Yorkshire Eye Hospital, the Prince Charles Eye Unit Windsor and at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

These fellowships allowed him to obtain extensive experience in the latest innovations in vitreo-retinal surgery, laser and injectable medicines. He also obtained additional training at the Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, in leading edge treatments for macular disease.

Dr Sean Cheng is the Principal Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon at Queensland Retina Specialists, specialising in medical and surgical diseases of the retina – such as retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, retinal vascular disease, complex cataracts and diabetic eye disease. He also provides a comprehensive eye care service – including cataracts, general ophthalmology and ocular trauma.

Dr Cheng grew up and was educated in Brisbane, Queensland. Dr Cheng was awarded First Class Honours in Engineering by the University of Queensland prior to commencing medical training.

Furthermore, Dr Cheng travelled to the United Kingdom to complete two additional years of surgical sub-specialisation through a Vitreoretinal Fellowship under the auspices of Professor Andrew Dick and Dr Richard Haynes at the prestigious Bristol Eye Hospital and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Dr Cheng also works as a Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon covering both the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital and the Princess Alexandra Hospital with Queensland Health.
