Open Access means your GP can refer you to Westside Private and you will be seen by the next available open access Gasteroenterologist typically within 1 week. Alternatively your GP can refer you to the Gastroenterologist of your choice.

Based on the initial consultation and assessment, your gastroenterologist may make recommendations for further treatment. For any abnormalities detected, our on-site colorectal surgeon can manage your needs.

Dr Peter Ko is a specialist gastroenterologist with an interest in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. He works as a senior staff specialist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Peter graduated from medical school in 2007 and completed his specialty training in South Korea. During this time, he completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in internal medicine. Peter has been working as a consultant gastroenterologist since 2013 and achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2019. He has strong interest and extensive experience in treating large and complicated polyps and has a demonstrated track record of excellent outcomes. Peter moved from South Korea to New Zealand in 2018, before settling in Brisbane in 2021. He is looking forward to developing relationships with patients at Westside Private Hospital.

Dr Rebecca Ryan is a General Gastroenterologist and Transplant Hepatologist. Rebecca has a strong interest in Women’s Digestive Health/Functional gut disorders as well as her Subspecialty Training in General and Transplant Hepatology. Dr Ryan graduated from Flinders University of South Australia with Honours in 1998 and began her advanced training in Gastroenterology at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Her final years of training (including a clinical fellowship year) were at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and Greenslopes Private Hospital.Dr Ryan worked as a Senior Staff Specialist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital from 2007 until 2017, and as a Senior Member of the Queensland Liver Transplant Team. Dr Ryan has been working in private practice since 2007, joining Montserrat Day Hospitals in 2012. Rebecca is now relocating to the Gold Coast and will be consulting at John Flynn Private Hospital from June 2021 and performing Endoscopy and Colonoscopy at Robina Private Hospital.

Dr Wong graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with honours in 2010. He completed his advanced training in gastroenterology at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, amongst others, and then undertook a year of advanced training at QEII Jubilee Hospital focussing on high-quality colonoscopy, techniques to improve adenoma detection rate, advanced endoscopic techniques for polyp resection, as well as capsule endoscopy.

At Westside Private in Brisbane, Dr Wong provides gastroscopy, colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy as well as iron infusions and is committed to supporting his patients through their journey. He is available for procedure and consulting lists at Westside Private Hospital.

Dr Terrence Tan joined Westside Private in 2014 and has become an integral member of the Montserrat Day Hospital team. Terrence has procedure lists and consults from our Westside Private hospital as well as from rooms at Ipswich.

Terrence graduated from the University of NSW in Sydney with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He then went on to undertake further training in Gastroenterology & Hepatology in Perth, where he explored his interest in patients with chronic hepatobiliary disorders and liver failure. He was awarded a fellowship from the FRACP in 2008 and then completed his doctorate (PhD) at the University of Queensland.

Dr Mark Cornwell studied Medicine at the University of Queensland and undertook Physician training at the Royal Prince Alfred and Princess Alexandra Hospitals before completing his Gastroenterology training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. Dr Cornwell brings his interest in gastroenterology consultation and high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy to Westside Private’s Gastroenterology Clinic in Brisbane. His upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, and capsule endoscopy training are recognised by the Conjoint Committee.

Mark is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, GE Society of Australia, European Association for the Study of the Liver and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and regularly attends national and international scientific meetings as part of his commitment to ongoing medical education. He is a member of ANZGITA, a volunteer-based training organisation and has twice volunteered as an endoscopy trainer in Myanmar.

Dr Hadi Moattar is a clinical Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with a special interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Luminal Endoscopy and Polypectomy. Dr Moattar performs Upper Endoscopy, Colonoscopy and Polypectomy along with consultations at Montserrat Hospitals. He accepts both private and open access referrals.

Dr Moattar completed his Medical Degree with distinction in 2004 and has since worked in various hospitals both in the United Kingdom and Queensland. In 2016, he completed his Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship and went on to work as an Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fellow at the foremost IBD Centre – the Fiona Stanley Hospital – in Perth, WA. This helped to expand his experience and skill in the management of complex patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Graham Radford-Smith embraces a holistic approach to gut health, working with clients to optimise their diet, mental health and other lifestyle factors while ensuring that they receive the best care. A trained gastroenterologist, he specialises in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD), colorectal neoplasia, and non-inflammatory gut disorders.

Dr Radford-Smith developed the IBD centre at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in 1997. Today, he is an Associate Professor of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Queensland and an honorary group leader at the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute. Dr Radford-Smith is the Chair of the ANZ IBD consortium of clinicians and the Crohn’s Colitis Cure – a charity supporting research and clinical practice for clients with IBD.

Dr Kiel is an Australian-trained Gastroenterologist. Dr Kiel completed advanced medical training in Gastroenterology at Nambour and Royal Brisbane Hospitals before completing a year as the Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Functional Gastrointestinal Fellow at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Post-training, Dr Kiel completed a clinical observership at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, focusing on functional gastrointestinal disorders.

Dr Kiel sees patients with all gastrointestinal conditions but has a particular interest in both Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders. She is one of the few Gastroenterologists in Queensland trained in high-resolution esophageal manometry. Dr Kiel performs 24 hour pH studies used in the assessment of patients with difficult-to-treat gastroesophageal reflux disease. She also performs upper endoscopy and colonoscopy and is passionate about providing high-quality procedures for bowel cancer screening.

Dr Xuan Banh is an Australian trained gastroenterologist who graduated from the University of Queensland and subsequently underwent physician training at multiple hospitals, including the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Logan Hospital and QEII Jubilee Hospital. She also undertook post-fellowship training in Luminal Interventional Endoscopy at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. She is a fellow in the Royal Australian College of Physicians and is a member of the Gastroenterology Society of Queensland.
